The elavetor was better than the discriptions. It worked quite well.
Bath was just like the image from other's discription. The floor will be all wet.
The view from the terace was terrific and we could spend some quiet time there.

It took quite a long time to get our credit card informations and organize our checkout. But we still could use the card instead of cash. Someone had written that she couldn't use the card.

this is my third stay at Medici. The location and price can not be beat. The renovations upgraded the hotel. My only concern was the smell in elevator areas. I believe it was sewer gas which would be caused by a dry trap. I would still stay there again on my next visit to Florence. Put me down as a satisfied client. John

The Hotel Medici is a fabulous hotel, with
great staff, good rooms, and a splendid view.
My one sidenote is that its rather noisy at
night, since you have to sleep with the
windows open, but its well worth it for this
gem of a hotel. I refuse to stay anywhere else
in Florence because Im sure that I will be
disappointed.

WE had a room that we were not completely satisfied with the first night. The Hotel changed us to a larger room for one night. We had 4 to a room and needed more space. On our return to Florence, we stayed at the Medici and they gave us the same larger room for our final night in Florence!!

We had requested a room on the top floor, with a view. This request had never been acknowledged in the reservation process, so it was not surprising that it wasn't met, but still slightly disappointing.

The FlorenceBy website was very helpful, in that it meant that the hotel had exactly what we needed -- a clean, simple room, but very centrally located. The clearness of the site made it straightforward to find exactly what was needed. The only disappointment was the poor quality of breakfast offered at the hotel.

The first room that we were offered was really not very good, very noisy next to a very noisy group of students. But the staff moved us to a great room on the top floor, with a view with no extra cost to compensate us, and were very accomodating. The location of the hotel is absolutely great, as well as the terrace and the view that it offers.

Absolutely the best location, be prepared for hard beds and very bare rooms, bathrooms are clean and great, if you get a top floor room, or the weather is nice enough to be on the terrace, it is the most amazing view of the city.

Our first room was very noisy - right by the general area in the middle, and there was a group of students staying there who shouted and screamed to each other in the rooms. But we were moved the next night to a quieter room - much better.

Very basic - no frills - but a perfect budget place to stay right in the middle of Florence. Where else can you wake up and see the Duomo from the rooftop for £20 a night?!

They didn't really give us any other info. Did not tell us what time breakfast was served in the morning, nor offered any additional info about the hotel services. It would have been niced if they offered a map of the city and stated that if we had any questions, we could ask them.

It was more dumpy than what I had imagined from the description on the web-site. IT is pretty run down and the hair dryer was broken in our room. However, it was decent and in an excellent location, so I would stay there again, cause it was a great location and great price.

The evening staff on the first night were
very aloof. I asked for an adapter for my
mobile phone and they told me they didn't
have one neither could they point me to a
place that sold one. On the second night,
thank god for meeting Nestor Gonzalez, the
most wonderful front desk person I have ever
met. He was so kind to me I actually gave
him a gift. He gave me an adapter that was
actually available at the hotel and was very
helpful and went out of his way for our
needs. Kudos to him. He deserves a raise or
a good bonus or something! This man should
own his own hotel he is so good at his job.

The bathroom was a little small. The noise
from the street on a Saturday night was
horrible, I could not sleep (but not the fault
of the hotel). Otherwise, this place is good
value for it's price and has a wonderful view
from both the room balcony and the terrace.

I had a problem finding the hotel after taking a bus from the airport to the downtown train station. Because I was told it was only 10 minutes away I tried walking it. Not a good idea in a strange city and having a language problem. A taxi would have been better, particularly with luggage.

Bedroom appearances looked better on the website. Terrace at top of property is fine - however,I should add the view is special. My single room with ensuite bathroom was very, very small. Furniture is very minimal and needs updating. Towels are only changed every 3 days or so, and bed linen also every 3 days. Staff at front desk very helpful in making museum reservations, giving map directions and getting taxis. Also they spoke very good English. It is rated as a 2 star hotel and that is what it is. It's real value is location.

It should be emphasized that this is a 2 star rated hotel - while it is listed as a bed and breakfast, it could also be listed as a small hotel as well. Rooms are very sparsely furnished, particularly single rooms. On the plus side I would emphasize it is only a 5 minutes walk to The Duomo, 10 minutes to The Uffizi Gallery and 15 minutes to the Pitti Palace. There is also the large Plaza nearby (its name escapes me at the moment) which is very nice to walk around in and people-watch.

If you are only looking for a clean place to sleep and not for a place to lounge around in and helpful staff for assistance then you are fine here. If you require the fancy lobby, television, large dining room...forget it.

I booked a 'single room' for 70 Euros (including breakfast) and requested that it be on one of the upper floors (as I had read elsewhere that there are only views from the 5th and 6th floors).
I was given Room 6 on the 3rd floor. This room had a double bed. There was no television. The official room rate (on the back of the door) was 180.76 Euros for 2 people throughout the year.

The room was large and clean but very 'basic'. The bathroom - built into one corner of the room - had a washbasin and wc with a shower outlet on the wall opposite the wc. There was no separate shower cubical, no shower curtain and no bathmat. Only one 'waffle' towel and a hand towel were provided each day.

This 2-star hotel at 70 Euros a night was a bit of a comedown compared to the excellent 3-star Hotel Anastasia in Venice where I had stayed the previous night for only 80 Euros (which included a very good breakfast).

We had asked for two bedrooms, each with a private bath. However, we got one apartment with 2 BR/1 BA for one night, then got moved to our accomodations. Since we were only staying there two nights, it was an inconvenience to have to move rooms. Once we got our separate rooms, we were delighted with our space.

There are two buildings that make up the hotel, both of which are very well located at just a few blocks from the Duomo. The quality of the rooms in each of the buildings seems to differ quite a bit (for example availability of A/C), so I would definitely inquire about the available amenities when booking a room.

Hotel Medici is located just a few blocks from the main train station and Florence's Duomo. They have studio apartments avaiable, which would come in handy for a lengthy stay.

We were upgraded to a room with a private bath since the hotel appeared to be overbooked. Although this is not a 'luxury' property, it is in a fantastic location (right across from the much-more-expensive Hotel Savoy) and has a roof deck with a beautiful view of the Duomo. My only quibble is that there is no secure location or ticketing system for storage of luggage, (although a desk clerk does keep an eye on it), so that there is no way to confirm that guests take their own luggage and no one else's. Overall, though, we had a very pleasant stay here and would highly recommend this hotel for short stays in Florence.

The check-out clerk told us it would take 'two minutes' for a cab to arrive to take us to the airport, but we allowed about 10 minutes just in case. As it turned out, the cab was already waiting for us by the time we arrived downstairs with our luggage---it really did take about two minutes!

There is no reception desk when you first enter the hotel, which was a little surprising. Rather, you must take a very old-fashioned caged elevator to reception, which is on the fifth floor. If you are afraid of elevators, this is not the hotel for you.

The Hotel Medici is an outstanding budget hotel considering its location next to the Florence Duomo. While the rooms are not extravagent, they are more than adequate if if you plan on sight seeing most of the time (as you should in Florence). Compared to the many negative reviews I read about other hotels in Florence (and which costed more), the Hotel Medici is a great find.
This was my second stay there in 14 months and I would stay there again.

Initially when I came in the door I wasn´t sure where to go. I saw the neon sign saying Medici and piano, but I didn´t understand that I was supposed to go up. So I went down through an open door that I saw, found a guy working in one of the rooms with electrical equipment in it, and he told me to go up to the fifth floor.

The localizations is very good, close to the Duomo, restaurants, central station and Ponte Vecchio. is an old hotel but is quite clean, and the rooms are spacious and the price es falirly good.

As the main access is by a difficult and temperamental lift (excluding 6 flights of stairs) this is not an ideal hotel for the disabled. My companion cannot climb stairs and the fact that the lift was not always available made things very difficult for her.
The only other gripe was the en-suite shower, where the shower curtain was totally inadequate and the bathroom floor was always soaking wet - very dangerous for someone with walking problems.

Fairly basic, but very clean and friendly, with wonderful views and at a very affordable price. There is no electricity point in the room, so cameras cannot be charged and no electrical goods can be used. Even charging your toothbrush was a real trial. However, the beds were comfortable, the food was good, though basic. You could not be nearer to the heart of Florence and all its sights and sounds.

The shower head was broken and the toilet was in the same room as the shower, very annoying when someone else was showering!! The terrace view is FANTASTIC (of the duomo) One particular female staff member didnt speak english and refused to connect an international caller to our room becasue she didnt understand and hung up. All in all the experience was great... the location is FANTASTIC! (breakfast was shitty, but we heard the coffee was pretty good)

We had a great experience at Hotel Medici. The beds adn rooms were just fine - in frills - but the two exceptional things about the Medici are:
Il Duomo is literally around the corner from the hotel and ALL the old city sights are within a few blocks. If possible, ask for the sixth floor where you have the best view of the city. From room 24, you have a full view of Il Duomo!

I had requested the 6th floor because of the balcony, and while the hotel couldn't commit to this at booking they said they would try. I was very pleased when we arrived and our room was on the sixth floor.
HOWEVER... The elevator was broken, and as this was the end of our trip, we had alot of luggage. The sixth floor (actually 7 flights up) was quite a struggle. It would have been nice if hotel staff had been available to help.

The price was great. The location was wonderful. The room was clean and comfortable. The only issue, the bathroom was not very clean. The shower curtain was covered in mold. I would stay there again, I would just ask for a new shower curtain. The staff was very nice.

We were first put up in the nearby building in a kind of an appartement, very modern. After the first night we asked to be moved to the old hotel, because of its 'oldish setting' which we liked. This was settled immediately, very nice!

The showeres were EXTREMELY small and there was no shelf to put your shampoo or soap. The shower curtain was about 12 inches from the floor. So, every time you showered the floor got soaking wet.

Close to everything. The price was good, the hotel was not fancy, but clean and the rooftop deck was great. We sat out there and had wine and cheese and the view was fantastic.

With a car it was difficult to find the location, lots of one ways not going the right way! Parked a few streets away, walked to hotel and got directions, not all of them in English - not really a problem with hotel just of the city.

Some of the comments by previous guests are a bit unfair. Rooms are basic but clean as is usual for Italian hotels in older buildings. View from roof terrace is million dollar! Breakfast is as usual for Europe - bread rolls, butter and jam and coffee or tea. Happy that there was a lift and pick up and delivery service for car parking.

My only real criticism was the noise from the teenage students in the corridor during the early hours of the morning.Excellent as a place to stay with friends - in my case went with fellow art history students but not for a romantic break with a partner!

When I arrived I was told that My accomodation had been moved down the road to an appartment. As I was travelling alone this was not what I wanted, I also wanted the facilitis of the roof top balconey and did not want to be walking around some back streets I did complain the receptionist huffed and puffed but they moved me to the main hotel.

I was given a room right next to the roof terrace, which on the one hand was nice. On the other hand, it was very noisy from other visitors sitting there at night. In addition to this, there was a toilet right outside my room which seemed to be used as a roof terrace toilet. Of course I can't blame other visitors but I find staff should have asked me whether I minded a room next to the terrace.

Directions seemed to be out of date. there are road works everywhere and one way streets that are not signaled. It took 1h15mins after leaving the motorway and in the end I had to park and walk.

The person at the reception did not know what to do with our bags after we checked out. We finally ended up putting them in a room with out people who had checked out with no supervsion.

When we arrived at the hotel the first thing we noticed was that the elavator was not functioning. It did not work for the length of our stay and the hotel reception was on the 6th floor. It was 40 degrees when we arrived in Florence and the last thing we wanted to do was walk up 6 flights of stairs.
The room we received was adequate with no air conditioning. It was my fault no verifying if the hotel had air conditioning. We did have a ceiling fan but with 40 degrees it did not provide much help. The bathroom in our room was quite small and stuffy with no ventilation. I tried to move to a room on the higher floors because they were much newer and much more pleasant but there was no availability until the next day. We were only there 2 nights therefore I did not pursue it.
The positive point about this hotel is that it is right smack downtown in the center of it all. It is a little noisy in the evening and in the morning because there is much going on outside this hotel.
The hotel also has a beautiful view of the city on the top floor where you can just go and sit and have a drink. It is nice and airy with a beautiful view of Florence.
The breakfast was very plain without much variety.
If I ever returned to Florence I would not stay there again just because the hotel is too run down which is unfortunate because it is perfectly situated.

Except for the magnificent view of the Duomo from the huge shared balcony, staying there during that period when there was a large group of german students who made alot of noise especially on the balcony in front of our room and the lift of the hotel not functioning occasionally or being blocked by the students or cleaners hence never reaching our floor or the ground floor, staying there was cheap and good. Although if you want quiet and peace, that is not the right hotel to stay in. In Addition, most of the staff were not friendly. Civil yes but nothing more.

Best desk clerks we came accross in Italy! Helped us work out travel arrangements and car rentals. Looked after our luggage for us also. We heard them being extremely helpful to others as well.

It was a surprise the reception was on the 5th floor and there was only a small lift so there was a delay as we came in a group.

The only issue we had was with the bathrooms/showers. I realize that American expectations and European reality are not the same, but when I am told I have a shower in a provate bath, I do not assume I will have to literally sit on the toilet to use it. Other than that, Hotel Medici was SUPERB! The location is fantastic, the breakfast and staff were great!

Only downside would be that it smalls. Room was smoe infested, and elevator smelled like sewage. Moved to a second room which was a little better, but the whole place just pretty much smelled bad. Other thna that, we enjoyed our stay and the employees were very accomadating.

I arrived late, 9:30pm, so it was understandable that there was no-one there directly. And the most confusing part was that the reception desk is on the 5th floor. Once I figured that out then check in went well.

My room was not actually in the hotel, but in an apartment, maintained by the hotel, several blocks away. To me me that was great. I felt more like a resident than a toutist. The apartment was in an old building on an old street that made my Florence experience that much more enjoyable. I still went to the hotel for breakfast.

I truely loved the room I stayed in, however it was a complete surprise and at first I was not so sure what I had gotten myself into. I don't know if this should be made known as a possiblity when booking a room there. If I ever go back though I do think I would like that room again.

To me the true wonder of Florence is it's history, art and architecture. I think sometimes a luxury hotel can seperate you from that experience. The room I stayed in was part of the history. The open beamed ceiling had to be a good 500 years old?

The place we were in did not have a proper window only a very small one, but it had a kitchen instead. It was a spacious room, everything was properly renovated. The thing is I was worried for this reservation because usually when you make one the staff of the hotel contacts you in any way and this time I only got the voucher you supplied me with. It was not till we got there that I was convinced the room was actually available.

Nice welcome as I was allowed to leave my luggages at the hotel for several hours before check in time. The only thing I wasn't happy about was when I arrived to check in. I got my keys to the room, got clear explanations on how to walk there, but when I entered my room it wasn't yet clean. I had to remind you and insist to clean it. When a customer checks in, please make sure the room is ready before giving him or her (or them if it's a couple) the keys.
Nevertheless I was quite satisfied with my stay in the hotel, I had a pleasant time visiting Florence.

Friendly staff but I was quite upset when one of your agents at check out didn't want to charge me the 75 Euros on my credit card, he wanted me to pay cash because it was less than 100 Euros. That wasn't fair. I had to negociate to be able to pay with my Visa Card as I didn't have 75 Euros in cash with me, he had to find somebody who could speak fairly good English. I knew I was able to pay with my Visa, he was wrong.

Receptionist was rather impolite wgen he informed us we were to be lodged in an annex and not the main hotel. We just wanted to know the walking distance as we both were very tired at this point He was abrupt and not very helpful. Cramped, noisy room with no amenities, but safe and reasonably priced with a great location in the center of Florence. Location, and the view from the 6th floor terrace, are the ONLY reasons to stay at Hotel Medici.

top floor rooms have a great view of the duomo bell tower which is next to the hotel but it fails to mention that the bell tower chimes at 7am for 5 full minutes waking up anyone that is sleeping.

Front desk was on the 5th floor and the elevator was not working so dragging bags up the stairs was an inconvience.
What surprised me was that the elevator worked every day during the hours the cleaning crew was in but did not work in the evenings and night.

The room was clean but plain as we expected. No seperate shower, just a shower head over the toilet but I guess that is common for europe so while it was a surprise, we understand.
The phone in the room didn't work, not even for a 800 number. The patio on the roof was great, the location was great, the breakfast was poor and the older lady working there was definitly having a bad day from how she treated the customers and the employees.
I would not stay there again but I would use your website service again. Your service was very convenient and our hotel in Pisa was very very nice. You get what you pay for.

Checkout was fast and thankfully, the elevator was working.....it was the middle of the day and the cleaning staff was still in the building using it.

We gor good directions from someone at the train station. The receptionist was barely polite and made no mention of breakfast service or that there was a terrace view abailable. The was definitely no concierge service available. We found breakfast the second day and waited a long time for service.

They allowed us to store our luggage in the reception area but when we returned to get it the elevator was still not working and we carried them ourselves down five floors of stairs.

The location was close to the train station and many major sights. I enjoyed hearing the bells of the Duomo and our room on the third floor had a lovely view of the Duomo rooftop. The elevator was seldom working and the staff was often heard yelling in an argumentative tone.

As stated above and I would advise them to stay elsewhere.

The hotel is smaller than I thought and it doesn't look like a hotel at all from outside.

Inside the room were poor (bad lighting, very old furnitures, very poor drainage, feel like have shower in a swimming pool) Totally different feelings than the reception, the reception looks very bright and new.

The staff was amenable at best. No one was particularly helpful or friendly but not horrible either.

The room was fine but no air conditioning leads to open windows which led to no sleep....it was loud until at least 4:00 am. The bathrooms down the hall were tiny and musty, so don't plan on too much luxury. The location was great.

The location is great. The reception desk is on the 5th floor and it was hard to get them out of the back room, so it was difficult to get directions or restaurant suggestions. In the morning there was no one there, which made check out lengthy enough that I was worried about catching my train.

I had a rude shock when I discovered that the hotel is so old, especially with the ancient lift! We had communication problem with the old lady who was the receptionist for the day. She could not speak English and had trouble explaining to us that our accommodation is not in the same building but a few blocks down the road. I was however relieved that the accommodation given is way better above my expectation after seeing the old hotel.

I had a wonderful stay at the apartment which is a few blocks away from Hotel Medici. Only thing I can lament about is the poor quality of the breakfast provided. I wish they gave more details on how they serve breakfast!

In my opinion, this was not a 2 star hotel - the shower leaked, which was important because the bathroom was very small, and the shower was right above the commode. The elevator frequently did not work. Since the desk is on the 5th floor, that was important, also. The shutters had pieces missing, so we couldn't open them well. There was no air conditioning, so we had to keep our windows open, and it was very noisy, because the streets were crowded until late and then the street sweepers came through.

We had a slight problem checking out, in that the hotel did not want to take a credit card, was unhappy that we didn't pay in cash.

I would probably not recommend that a friend stay at the Hotel Medici.
